Computer Centers
Access to Joliet Public Library computers
is controlled by PC Reservation software that allows patrons to make
reservationsfrom the library or home up to 48 hours in advance. PC Reservation
also allows patrons to log themselves onto the library's computers by typing in any
Prairie Area Library System (PALS) library card number, or a reservation number
received from a member of the library staff into the appropriate location on the
screen.

computers at the Main Library and Black Road Branch is found below.
Main Library
Online
Information Center (OIC)

The Online Information Center provides users access to the Internet,
Microsoft Office and Reference programs, and selected
online databases.
All Library patrons who have a valid library card from an Illinois
public library can use one of the twenty-four Internet workstations for a
minimum of one hour per day. Visitors from outside Illinois may request a
reservation number at the OIC desk.

Illinois residents without a library card may access our databases and
selected Websites from the four Information computers located adjacent to the OIC computers. They may also access the Internet for 15 minutes at the Express
E-Mail station located at the Reference desk.
Media Center

The Media Center provides patrons access to Microsoft Office and
Reference programs. as well as children's educational programs. Patrons
can type papers, reports, letters, and legal documents, or create
resumes. The Homework Center computers are dedicated to age/grade
appropriate
software
for K-8 students.
All Library patrons who have a valid library card from an Illinois
public library can use one of the 18 workstations for a
minimum of one hour per day. Visitors from outside Illinois may request a
reservation number at the Media Center desk. Reservations for a Media Center computer can be made up to
48 hours in
advance by

Black Road Branch
Adult Computer Center
 | The Adult Computer Center at the Black Road Branch has a variety of applications
available for patrons to use, including Microsoft Office and Reference, online databases and Internet access. All Library
patrons who have a valid library card from an Illinois public library can use one of the
24 computers for a minimum of one hour per day. Visitors from outside Illinois may request a
reservation number at the Computer Center service desk. |
Youth Computer Center
The Youth Computer Center at the Black Road Branch is for children under 14 years of age, featuring educational games, applications and the Internet. Parents must sign
a "Parental Consent Form" for their children at the service desk before
they are allowed to use the computers. In addition to choosing whether or not their children can use the computers, parents select how much access to the Internet their children have. The Youth Computer Center has some stations with full Internet access, and other that have Guided Internet Access, consisting of sites that have been pre-selected by Library staff as appropriate for children. |
