eBooks
How do I download eBooks?
Click on our
eMediaLibrary link. Our eBooks can be read with the
Adobe Digital Editions software, which is a free
download from the eMediaLibrary web site. You will also
need Adobe Flash Player, which is also a free download.
The eBooks can be read on both PCs and Macs, and can be
transferred to the Sony Reader. Just like our
downloadable audio, the eBooks have a two week checkout
period. All you need to use this free service is a
Joliet Public Library card. (eMediaLibrary eBooks
cannot be transferred to the Amazon Kindle.)
Should I activate Adobe Digital Editions
anonymously, or with an Adobe ID?
The first time
that you open Adobe Digital Editions, you must activate
the program. Adobe Digital Editions can be activated
anonymously, or by using an Adobe ID. If you activate
Adobe Digital Editions anonymously, you will be able to
read your eBooks on your computer, but will not be able
to transfer eBooks to your Sony Reader. In order to
transfer eBooks to your Sony Reader, you must activate
Adobe Digital Editions with an Adobe ID, and your Sony
Reader must be activated with the same Adobe ID.

eAudiobooks
How do I download eAudiobooks?
Click on our
eMediaLibrary link. Windows Media Player 9.0
or higher is required to download eAudiobooks
from eMediaLibrary. You will also need
Overdrive Media Console 3.2.
Both of these may be downloaded from our
website for free.
Can I download eAudiobooks to my Apple
iPod?
Yes. Selected titles are available, which are compatible
with Apple iPods as well as a range of other devices.
These will be clearly marked on the eMediaLibrary
website.
What are recommended steps for iPod users
to download OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks?
• Install OverDrive Media Console
v.3.2 to a Windows-based computer or OverDrive Media
Console v.1.x to a Mac.
• Install Apple iTunes version
7.6.2.9 (or newer) and QuickTime 7.4.5 (or newer) to the
same computer.
• In iTunes, enable the 'Manually
manage music' setting.
How do I
know if my portable media player is compatible with this
service?

has

What else
do I need to know?
•
This service is only offered to Joliet Public Library
cardholders.
• Up to 10 titles may be checked out on a Library card
at any one time.
• The loan period for eBooks and eAudiobooks is 2 weeks.
•
They will be automatically checked in when the loan
period ends and cannot be returned before that date.
• eBooks and eAudiobooks cannot be downloaded to the
Library’s computers.
