Joliet Remembers
The 1990s

The 1990s were exciting years in Joliet. A tornado struck Plainfield, Joliet, and Crest Hill. A new addition tripled the size of the Joliet Public Library main library, and a library outlet was opened in Louis Joliet Mall.  Casino gambling came to the city, and Route 66 Raceway opened.

The Hubble Space telescope was placed in orbit by the Space Shuttle.  Operation Desert Storm liberated Kuwait.  The Soviet Union ended its existence.

Below you will find links to images of newspaper stories and headlines from the [Joliet] Herald-News that illustrate what Jolietans read about major events of that decade.
